Jim Thalassoudis

Recognised for his paintings of fluorescent neon signs, acclaimed artist Jim Thalassoudis takes viewers on a journey through semi-nocturnal streets, clustered with vacant motels and fast-food outlets that beckon prospective visitors through intricate lighting displays. Thalassoudis’ scenes pay homage to the artificial light that transforms our skylines when darkness descends, and we are reminded of American-Realist Edward Hopper’s urban and rural depictions of modern American life. Combining photographic documentation and intricate artistry, Thalassoudis’ fluorescent scenes of Australian cityscapes capture the fleeting space between dusk and dawn.

“Catching the beauty of a moment is what matters to me... I don’t necessarily look for landmarks but sometimes a place can become a landmark as it connects so many moments and people’s experiences... every painting has a story behind it.” - Jim Thalassoudis speaking with Neos Kosmos magazine.
